Thomsons started life in 2000 when co-founders Michael Whitfield and Chris Bruce wrote their first business plan. They had one clear aim - to use technology to revolutionise the employee benefit market.
From introducing the market’s first paperless and signature-free pensions enrolment to the launch of our benefits platform - Darwin™ - we have continued to push the boundaries of innovation.
By 2010, our turnover exceeded £20m, we had over 200 employees and Darwin was live in more than 20 countries. In January 2013 the company was valued at almost £100m and in June 2015 we fully transitioned to a SaaS benefits technology provider. During December 2016 we were acquired by Mercer, global consulting leader in advancing health, wealth and career.
Today, with over 100 industry awards under our belt and more than four million employees using Darwin globally in over 100 countries and more than 40 languages worldwide, we continue to revolutionise the benefits market and turn the world PINK as we go.
Thomsons is now firmly established as truly global, with Darwin considered the leading benefits management and employee engagement solution. We have offices in the UK, Singapore, Romania and the US, and accessible in over 130 further countries through Mercer.

For many businesses, there is little, or no, connection between the brand and the people that work there. The company colour palette is just a set of colours someone once chose, and nothing more.
We chose PINK as the colour of Thomsons over 10 years ago because it stood for so many things that we are – like standing out, being brave, caring, fun and passionate. Passionate about our people, our clients and our technology.
